An essential workforce

Despite the commonly-peddled folktale that lecturers are only employed in a limited set of specialty classes or in uncommon circumstances, the reality is that they (and other precariously employed instructors) are taking on an ever-increasing share of undergraduate teaching.
Less than half of lower division course credits are still being taught by traditional full-time faculty at the UC.
